How many good techniques do you see in these award-winning videos? Make sure you see the "Reflections" piece from Baltimore.

The video gave good information, personal and so on. It has mixed stories.

While I was watching the Baltimore video, I noticed many good filming techniques used that enhanced the story and captivated viewer interest. When shooting the story about the fire, there were close-ups of the water hose, the firefighters hands, of the smoke, etc. There were many different angles used and they cut from one to another to keep the viewer inticed with the storyline.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that they did a lot of voice overs; there was audio even when shooting the reaction of people. I particularly liked the shot of the woman taking a picture on her cell phone. It showed audience reaction, like "There's a fire and its so big that I have to take a picture to show people."
I definitely think we can incorporate several of these techniques into our shooting. It would be very interesting to be able to cover stories like that.

This video has many techniques that can be implemented into our footage. There were many different angles used, which kept viewer interest. The variety of footage was amazing. I had to constantly watch the screen, for fear of missing an important image. I was never bored while watching this video
ReplyDeleteAlso, one thing that I noticed, and was impressed by was the constant b-roll. One thing that we need more of in our footage is b-roll. If we show what we are talking about the viewer will have both a auditory and a visual memory of the video's message.

What I thought was impressive about the middle school story was the cameraman's ability to capture the commotion of the event through his technique i.e the short clips on after the other, people pacing, cars and ambulances racing. To capture that in the moment takes quick creative thinking since in the time you'd use planning your shot, you could miss a lot more. The fact that it was a voice over footage so the focus is on the story, not the person telling it. It'd be interesting if we could make OUR stories that interesting.
