Great radio deserves a listen

Click here for driveway radio (you don't get out of the car till the story is over)

As many of you know, I drove down to the mine disaster area over the summer.  This story has deep resonance for me as I grew up near the mines.

Please listen to this story and note the elements of sound.  Note when you are really paying attention.  What made you do that?  What touched you?  What made you feel like things were or were not fair?

Classwork Friday, Nov. 12

Several things.  Write up on paper and give to the sub.  Do not email this to me this time.

1.  You will need to register for #1 when you click on the first link; don't worry, it is easy and pain free.   Look at the way this news game is designed.  Does game help to understand the issues?

Remember, we are each going to make the alcohol-safe public service announcement.  This will help you understand some of the issues.  It might also spark a way, an angle on the way to produce this for the competition.

So, click on this link.  Drinking Age Debate | Play the News | Impact Games

2.  Click here: Obama's candid side  Read article and watch the attached video.

"The Obama administration has expanded the use of new media at the same time as it’s freezing out old media.”  Explain what they mean by this.  Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing?

3.  Click here for Jewish rapper  You know, Sean Combs sidekick, Shyne.
"All these rules, rules, rules," he said with his hand on an open page of the Talmud.  "But you know what you have if you don't have rules?  You end up with a bunch of pills in your stomach.  When you don't know when to say when and no one tells you no, you go off the deep."
Write a reflection on this article.  What do you think about redemption or about cultures mixing together (strength or weakness)?  Is this guy for real?
Write this all up and turn into the substitute teacher.  See you Monday.

On Friday we will begin the work for the human rights contest that you read about last class.  You will also have a quiz on the readings I have given you while I was gone.  If you were absent and have not finished up all the work I have given you, I suggest you read the blogs and get it to me.  If you were in class and elected not to turn the work in, you will suffer a grade reduction.  No exceptions.
